Indiana Congressman supports the public option... Sarah Palin orders the death panels to attack

In local Jeffersonville, IN news a Democratic congressman has taken a brave stand to support his constituent's right to live :

LETTERS: Reader thanks Baron Hill for his stand on health care

I want to say how much I appreciate Congressman Baron Hill courageously standing up for Indiana's middle class families right to affordable healthcare.

We have seen medical insurance/health care cost skyrocket, and the worst thing we could do for our grandchildren would be to saddle them with the expense of leaving things as they have been. We know it doesn't work.

It would have been so easy to "play it safe" and just do nothing. Instead of voting no, as every Indiana Republican voted, Congressman Hill got us a bill that provides a public option to provide money saving competition, and improves the exemption for small businesses.

No one claims perfection, but at least we may not have to wait another 30 years to get the special interest groups under control, so our companies can compete in the world economy, and we can get healthcare for most of our citizens. We need a representative strong enough to act to resolve our problems and this is just what Congressman Baron Hill has done for Southern Indiana.

Thank you, Baron, and keep up the good work.

— Joanna Bayer, New Albany

Since no one cares what the people in Indiana think I'm sure no one has read this. However, if they have I expect a full attack on Rep. Hill during the next election by his eternal right wing opponent Mike Sodrel.

FANTASY FOOTBALL 2009 EDITION: Initial Thoughts

How many of you had Adrian Peterson at the top of your lists? If you were smart you did. Hopefully you were lucky enough to get him!

Here's hoping everyone does well and makes some money. And for those of you who got stuck with Michael Crabtree... well maybe you can still drop him or trade him to some unsuspecting member of your office league.

And We're Back!!

Back from our brief vacation, I now update you with world news report. Let’s turn to the esteemed Foreign Policy blog. It appears that Russia’s former czar/democratically elected leader is getting down to biznass. He is solving Russia’s problems with good ole fashioned elbow grease. He has went camping, showing the citizenry to forget about their economic woes because they can live off of the land. Don’t worry about running water, you can always swim, drink and piss in the pond. Last but certainly not least he demonstrated how one can build a fire because winter without electricity is going to be a biatch.

What does the Russian public say to this? Hell yeah! Putin is a REAL leader! He knows REAL people and REAL solutions. Well, that’s what I imagine they are saying since as the Moscow Times reports:

“He (Putin) is unbeatably popular,” and, “since 1999…his popularity has rarely been rivaled by any other politician in the country.”

Putin, he is the REAL deal and has proven there is a little bit of REAL AMERICA in every country!!

Do You Realize Oklahoma Is F*&@ing Awesome?!

Since Oklahoma seems to be behind the times by approximately 10-15years (yes they still wear Umbros, No Fear t-shirts, listen to Billy Ray Cyrus version 1.0 and party like it is 1999 because y2k is going to kill us all!) it takes a while for information to get in and seep out of that great state. No worries, I have obtained this piece of rocking news for you all. Better late than never.

After a long hard-fought battle Oklahoma has chosen its state rock song. While one thinks this would be an easy decision left up to the Oklahoma citizenry, well guess again. There were two major obstacles. One, so many great songs! The song naturally had to be written by an Oklahoman, sung by an Oklahoman, about Oklahoma or a combination of the 3. Finalists included “Heartbreak Hotel,” co-written by Oklahoma school teacher Mae Boren Axton and recorded by Elvis Presley, “Move Along” by the All-American Rejects (thankfully, Oklahoma rejected them as well) and “Never Been to Spain” by Oklahoman Hoyt Axton and made famous by Three Dog Night (in which one cannot tell the difference between “Oklahoma or Arizona, what does it matter?”). After the downloads of the finalists and replays on their Napster accounts (which they had to pay for since they were unaware of this technology when it was still free), Oklahomans around the glorious red state (alluding to the dirt though political analogies would work too) made a choice…but that choice was not appreciated by the state legislators. Silly public thought they had a right to choose what song would represent Oklahoma in the rock world. Silly people, tricks are for politicians.

This leads me to obstacle number two. After the song “Do You Realize” by The Flaming Lips won in a landslide victory, members of the Oklahoma House wrote a resolution rejecting the psychedelic song by the hippie-dippie communist band. Now please don’t take offense. I am only speaking the truth. I reference this article and my proof lies in the picture! Long hair and a hammer and sickle t-shirt while on the Holy Ground of the Oklahoma Capitol?! Clearly screams hippies and commies. The good-hearted conservative legislators who know what is best for us all tried their damnedest to shield Oklahoma from the tainted reputation of a refuge for lefty Libbys, hippie communes, and psychedelic drug users (not to be confused with Meth addicts, those they support!). However, the Democrats sent in their secret weapon, Governor Brad Henry, to issue an executive order declaring “Do You Realize” as Oklahoma’s State Rock Song.

Alas, the libs prevailed but what do you expect from the home of Woody Guthrie?

Call this Nuevo-American Poetry, cuz its real abstract and shit

This is the Palin farewell speech. Read this seriously..

Pareen, at Gawker said "It's like Peggy Noonan, Jack London, and William Faulkner wandered into the woods with three buttons of peyote and one typewriter, and only this speech emerged."

What an absolutely beautiful day it is, and it is my honor to speak to all Alaskans, to our Alaskan family this last time as your governor. And it is always great to be in Fairbanks. The rugged rugged hardy people that live up here and some of the most patriotic people whom you will ever know live here, and one thing that you are known for is your steadfast support of our military community up here and I thank you for that and thank you United States military for protecting the greatest nation on Earth. Together we stand.

And getting up here I say it is the best road trip in America soaring through nature's finest show. Denali, the great one, soaring under the midnight sun. And then the extremes. In the winter time it's the frozen road that is competing with the view of ice fogged frigid beauty, the cold though, doesn't it split the Cheechakos from the Sourdoughs? And then in the summertime such extreme summertime about a hundred and fifty degrees hotter than just some months ago, than just some months from now, with fireweed blooming along the frost heaves and merciless rivers that are rushing and carving and reminding us that here, Mother Nature wins. It is as throughout all Alaska that big wild good life teeming along the road that is north to the future. That is what we get to see every day. Now what the rest of America gets to see along with us is in this last frontier there is hope and opportunity and there is country pride....read the rest here

I LUV HURRRRRR I LUV HUR SO GOOD!

To Eastern NC Parents, Sportsmanship comes at a cost, to winning, so basically fuck sportsmanship and you show them faggots whats up Jr.

Baseball.

To many in rural and suburban America, this exclusively white and messican past-time is nothing but simple, good natured, sport.

Young boys frollock to and fro in skin-tight pantaloons, wear gloves designed to gather up balls, and then attempt to make contact with those balls with their 2-foot long wooden rods.

Being a product of an oft-broken home, I had little pressure to become the next great American ballplayer. My parents were content to let me play with my Barbie dolls and masturbate, frequently, in peace.

Yet, to many in Eastern North Carolina, having a baby boy is an opportunity similar to pressing the restart button on your NES. It means super mario gets another go.

The reason Americans have babies is so they can be famous. Its like a retirement fund. And when the babies are famous, they'll forgive you for their childhood and sprinkle you with diamonds and jet skis.

These ball playing kids, they got the customary whippings for not hitting well, the usual laps post-game for hits allowed, you know that usual parenty stuff for wanting the best out of your kids. (WHY DIDN'T MY PARENTS LOVE ME!???)

And these parents, they know whats up, and that's why they fist fight at games in the bleachers and slap ref's around. All they want to do is tell their children that sportsmanship is for those pussies playing with Barbies and masturbating, frequently, and that real life is about winning!

Think about it this way.
You can:
A) Give up your Bud Ice, bass boat, online poker, and methamphetamine to save for "cuhmuneety cawlige"
or you can
B) beat them, the refs, the school boarders and any other parents who get in ur way of makin them a fucken superstar!

Obama a Racist?

http://www.politico.com/singletitlevideo.html?bcpid=1155201977&bctid=30949315001

Glenn Beck recently confirmed what we all feared and knew to be true. Barack Obama is, indeed, a racist!

Shall I continue? Or is the truth too, dare I say, TRUTHY for all of you?

We all knew that electing the first African-American to the highest office in the land would upset the natural order of things and, eventually, hasten the coming of the end of days - but we failed to see the BIGGER repercussions. Yes, we were too narrow-minded. We were too transfixed by his winning smile and satellite dish ears. We were so naive!

Yes, Oprah endorsed him. Yes, Colin Powell endorsed him. These endorsements by white-accepted black people were simply smokebombs to provide sufficient cover for the black agenda. And, of course, the very first time a significant racial issue arises, satellite-dish-ears speaks up. Who does he think he is, Al Sharpton?

We, in America, want a President who ignores social issues and doesn't speak their mind. We would prefer President Obama couch his feelings - preferably in the format of a well-known book of the Bible. Since it is only the 7th month of his Presidency, we'll choose Genesis.

"Barry saw the racial issue, and it was good."

Would that not have been better than him brazenly speaking his mind?

So Shut Up Obama! And fix the economy already! Or is that going to get in the way of your "Black Agenda"?

North Carolina, Come on, and raise up?

Grandchildren, esteemed colleagues,

The Great state of North Carolina is responsible for many, many, many things.

We invented flight.
We cured racism.
We turned NASCAR into a legit sport.
Basically, we love America, and probably more than you.

Guess what else we do these days?

A little this, a little that, a little international terrorist conspiracy.

Yup. A real life white American, his 2 illegitimate half breed children and 3 other U.S. of A. Americans (but still muslin {the real, yellow kind}) have been arrested for... you guessed it, an international terrorist conspiracy plot.

As a real live southerner, I knew it would not be too long before the joint strains of anti-government
(read anti-American, anti-northern, anti-east coast, anti-intellectual, anti-artistic, anti-gay, anti-etc.) conjoined with muslin extremism. I mean they both hate the jews, what an ice breaker!

But where others see only see the "negative" aspects, let me be the first to congratulate my southern brethren for overcoming the other crazy rural southern vice; xenophobia.

I mean this cat loved foreigners so much he went and scooped him up a child-bride baby machine from Afghanistan, a real lady who knows her place! And after that he even had time to join the jihad and rob a mother fucking bank! All in the name of that dribble drabble noise thing they call gawd.

oh yeah, one more crazy muslin terrorist is still on the lam.

You gotta fight for your right to have holes in your peep show booth...

Well gentle readers, a true battle of your first amendment rights is ensuing in the tiny town of Clarksville, IN. Southern Indiana is a land mass in the continential United States known for its inability to pick a side; the majority of the residents agree that the North had the right idea about what side of the Civil War to be on, but that doesn't stop them from speaking in a hickish dialect and only drinking sweet tea. Perhaps it is because they refer to themselves as really living in Kentuckiana... but I digress.

On this day in the local scribe, The Evening News, it was declared that a battle for Theatair X would ensue.
For those of you not familiar with the establishment let me take you back to a time when major development had not reached this swath of land. In your editor's childhood Theatair X was an establishment known for showing inappropriate movies, selling "toys", and being a rite of passage stop for all those who turned 18. In these days the "theatre" was tucked far away on a mostly deserted road and the folk who parked in the lot could rest easy knowing their car would not be spoted in the parking lot unless some other weary soul was headed to the same place.

Well, as a much wiser human being once said, "the times, they are a-changing" and even this magical land could not hide from the mighty fist of urban sprawl. Over the years the land build up until it was surrounded by Super Wal-Marts, Super Target shopping centers, row after row of strip malls, and such fine dining establishments as Olive Garden and Buffalo Wild Wings. These days your typical nuclear family setting out for an idyllic day of shopping at the world's largest Bass Pro Shop would be forced to explain to their children what the Theatair X was and why their grandmother's car was in the parking lot.

The mighty communities of Jeffersonville, Clarksville, and other towns that made up Clark County knew they had to nip this nuisance in the bud once and for all: enter a lawsuit!

Amoung the chief concerns listed in the lawsuit are these:
Clarksville Building Commissioner Bob Polston cited Theatair X in October for staying open past 1 a.m. In May, he cited the establishment for holes between the [peep show] booths, inadequate lighting, doors on the booths and not having a straight vision from the desk to the booths.

Any qualified lawyer could smack these arguments down rather easily.
1. Everyone knows it is too depressing to go to a peep show in Southern Indiana before you're good and drunk and can dull the shame (i.e. after 1am).
2. Isn't that the point of a peep show booth?
3. I sincerely doubt anyone in this joint is worried about the artistic effects of the lighting (sounds like the good commissioner had a bad experience...)
4 and 5 I must lump together. First you complain that there are doors on the booth so people can't spy on the peepers peeping. Then you complain that you can't see everything from the front.... what kind of voyeristic perv are you?

If you'd like to read a copy of this breaking story click here .

So readers, what do you think. Should this shamless hovel be put to extinction to save the children, or do the drunk/fat/lonely/all of the above citizens of Southern Indiana have a right to their badly lit peep shows?

Post Script --- You've been smokebombed, mother fuckers!

There have been some rumblings in the "liberal-elite media" regarding the lack of voice for TheSmokebomb. Frankly, it's been long overdue! My fellow feaux-journalistas and I have been adrift amongst a sea of tomfoolery as of late. Let me stand up with one voice (just my own right now but more lemmings to follow) and say the buck stops here.

I will go browser to browser if I have to--but I'm gonna convince Americans that I am awesome, and I'm gonna get a shitload of hits for this blog. We've got serious problems, and we need serious people. And if you want to talk about crappy blog content, you better come at me with more than a receipt from the free clinic and pictures of an awkwardly healing crotch rash. If you want to talk about voice and bullshit blogosphere stuff, fine. Just tell me where and when and I'll show up. This is a time for serious people, and your fifteen minutes are up. My name is Awesome Instead and I am the President (slightly paraphrased from Aaron Sorkin's The American President).

God, MLK unhappy with whiny blacks

You know.

This has been a sad week for African Americans.

It really has.

As we all know, black people in America were created when god used MLK’s rib to create a genetically superior race through cloning, chemistry, algebra, scientology and baking.

God, after all, is nothing if not resourceful.

But now the blacks have gone and mucked it up by being huge racists, which was not what God and MLK had in mind.

Recently, a white man arrested a black man for breaking into his home. Last I checked, breaking and entering is illegal, regardless of who’s home it is. And on top of that, the white man was a cop!

Unfortunately, this black was real famous, not like Denzel famous, more like Michael Steele famous.

So now, the blacks have started finger pointing, and god and MLK "ain't happy" as they say.

In fact, god was so angry, he illustrated his frustration through this political cartoon!

Get em' god, you show them blacks to be more grateful!

BIRDS

I think birds are scary, strange creatures. And it's not because I stayed up late one night and watched the movie The Birds, it is because I am pretty sure they are out to get me. When I was little all of my toys were in the basement of our house. I would go down to get them, by myself, and would see, through the dusk of our basement, two piercing eyes. I would then flip my shit and run upstairs screaming. A majority of the time, the bird, either because I startled it or it had decided to peck my brains out, would chase me up the stairs and I would have to lock it in a closet or our living room until my dad came home to chase it out of the house.
This happened over and over again, until my goofy parents finally realized that we could simply put a screen over our chimney to keep the birds out.

Ever since, I have been very cautious around birds. No sudden movements or eye contact. I give them their space and hope that they will just leave me alone. I have been living, successfully, with my fear of birds for years. Then, this weekend, I heard two strange stories about crows and it brought all of my terror back to the surface. The first one, talks about crows in Japan that can clench their hands into fists and hit people. Then I heard on the radio that crows can remember and identify human beings. AND, they hold grudges. So, if they feel wronged by a human, they can remember what that person looked like for years, as the grudge cultivates into blind rage. That's fucked up.

Read this article and tell me birds aren't creepy:

In Tokyo, Hitchcock Isn't Around, but He Seems to Have Sent the Birds

TOKYO -- The crows are back in town, swooping in from the suburbs, feasting on garbage in Ginza, cawing with impunity.

"Yes, they have returned," admitted Naoki Satou, the chagrined point man for the city's eight-year-old war on crows.

The conflict had gone Tokyo's way until 2006, when the formidably beaked carrion-eaters launched a counterattack. The crow count has since risen about 30 percent.

Besides indulging in their usual high jinks -- ripping open plastic garbage bags, scaring children in parks, pooping on passersby -- crows have been sabotaging the city's high-speed Internet network. Hundreds of fiber-optic cables have been slashed open by crows scrounging high-tech stuffing for their nests. The birds are also blamed for periodic blackouts. At least one has been implicated in shutting off power to a bullet train in northern Japan.

These are jungle crows (Corvus macrorhynchos), and they are bigger, badder and uglier than their kin in North America. They weigh in at about 1 1/2 pounds and have a yard-wide wingspan. They can clench their claws into fists and punch people in the head, local bird experts say. They sometimes dive-bomb Tokyoites from the rear, with an unnerving whoosh that has been known to cause people to crash their bicycles or fall down stairwells.

Like drill sergeants from hell, they wake up city dwellers at dawn with their deep, hoarse, astonishingly loud caws. Conversations about the birds inevitably allude to Alfred Hitchcock.

But one crow picked on the wrong guy in 2001. It whooshed near Shintaro Ishihara, the often irascible, exceedingly powerful governor of Tokyo, while he was playing golf.

"I intend to make crow-meat pies Tokyo's special dish," Ishihara announced.

And the crow war commenced, with broad public support and not much carping from animal rights groups. Everyone agreed that the in-town population of the mischievous creatures had gotten out of hand. Their numbers had more than quintupled between 1985 and 2001, increasing from 7,000 to 36,400.

At last count, the city has exterminated 105,392 crows, with an estimated 21,200 still at large. Most were caught in traps baited with mayonnaise or lard. They were gassed with carbon monoxide and cremated in one of the city's many high-efficiency garbage incinerators. The city won't say which one.

At the same time, ward governments in Tokyo distributed hundreds of thousands of blue mesh nylon tarps. Residents were instructed never to put plastic garbage bags outside unless they were covered with the supposedly crow-proof blankets.

Tokyo's metropolitan government has incurred $5.3 million in extermination costs -- about $50 per dead crow. The effort appears to have mollified residents, as crow complaints have fallen by 80 percent in the past six years.

Fatigue, however, began to set in three years ago. Crow traps got old and were not replaced. Because of budget cuts, bait portions in traps were reduced, the Asahi newspaper reported. The paper also alleged that the city skimped on mayonnaise to save money, but Tokyo officials insist that crows like lard just as much as they like mayonnaise.

"We were going through a transitional phase that year," said Satou, the city official responsible for crow control. "We couldn't catch as many, and therefore there were more crows."

He said Tokyo residents compounded the problem by becoming less conscientious about their garbage and their blue blankets.

Finally, Satou said, governments on the outskirts of Tokyo have not ridden herd on their crows. Suburban crows, he complained, are commuting into the city at mealtimes.

Many bird experts disagree with Satou's assessment. They say Tokyo is losing control of the crow situation because it underestimates the intelligence of the birds and overestimates its ability to control their numbers through extermination.

"The older, more clever crows never go near those traps," said Hiroshi Kawachi, an official with the Wild Bird Society of Japan. "They are catching only young, stupid crows, not the breeders."

Kawachi said smarter crows have figured out the blue tarps: They lift them up and then eat the garbage.

The only effective and humane way to limit crows in Tokyo is to get more serious about garbage, said Kawachi, who for a year counted crows eating trash in the upscale Ginza district.

He found that when Ginza restaurants agreed to have their garbage collected at night, rather than in the late morning, after crows eat breakfast, the birds' numbers declined by half.

"I am not saying crows are adorable," he said. "But we can quickly bring their numbers down to an appropriate level with smarter garbage collection."

Meanwhile, the city is not backing down from the fight. As well as encouraging residents to be more vigilant with their blue blankets, it is putting out more traps, well-baited with lard.

Jesus Rocks and God is the Light of the World

You can learn a lot on the tubes. I re-watched Religulous and thought to myself... "Self... I wonder how the people in REAL AMERICA felt about that movie." So I did some extremely tough investigative journalism (i.e. opened up google and typed in the movie's name) and on the first page I stumbled across this little nugget of wisdom and glory:

"Maher: "Having no other gods before you, that's not moral...it's just something a jealous god would do."

The man who plays "Jesus" cites a passage that says God is a jealous God, and Maher replies:

" ..that seems so ungodlike, that God would have such a petty human emotion. I know people who have gotten over jealousy."

My answer:

The word for "jealousy" in Joshua 24:19....is used less than half a dozen times in the OT, and always is used to describe God. Nowhere is this word described as a sin. A related word is used to describe a husband who worries that his wife is walking out on him (Numbers 5). Sarna (Exodus commentary, 110) notes that the root of the word means "to become intensely red" and that it can refer to ardor, zeal, rage, or jealousy. Paul knows of a godly jealousy (2 Cor. 11:2), so is this a sin as we understand it? Jealousy is part of God's nature because it is demanded by who He is -- He is the only being who can indeed say He has a right to be jealous, since He is the only one who truly deserves utter respect and devotion. Malina in The New Testament World [126-7] adds that in the context of an honor-based world, jealousy was "a form of protectiveness that would ward off the envious and their machinations." It is a behavior that an honorable person is expected to "exhibit towards that which he or she is perceived to possess exclusive access." Thus for God to be jealous here is not a vice in context, but a supreme virtue and demonstration of His concern for Israel.

I doubt if Maher is familiar with agonistic societies.

Maher also says later, "[God] spends the first five books of the Bible wiping out people."

Really? I must have missed that where it was in Leviticus; there was a death toll of just two there, not exactly a wipeout. This is merely argument by outrage."

So, faithful readers of the Smokebomb, today we learned that:
a. Jealousy is not a sin because God is a man (not only an man... but the man) and it is just 'in his nature/who he is'. Also, you're supposed to feel jealous of the things you own.... therefore making it ok to wiretap your wife
b. Since Maher lied (2 people smited by God does not a massive death toll make.... DUH!) he is just a dumb dumb. Everyone knows it was only the first 4 books of the bible that count. I mean.... just because he ordered people into misery for incorporating fruit into their diet, killed everything and everyone with a massive flood while PMSing, turned someone into a pillar of salt for having the dishonor to turn around, had his son die in a pretty horrific and messy way, convinced people to almost kill their sons and daughters, and sent a bunch of plagues and then is going to judge the whole world... well I mean come on! That is totally normal behavior!
